Word of God
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5
Happy New Year! As usual, we closed out the previous year with a worship celebration with the entire GCC family. It was such an amazing blessing. And it was a great joy to be able to offer hymns of praise to God with the Canvas choir. I believe we blessed God and blessed the congregation, as well.
I felt God’s presences throughout the service, and I was so thankful to God for His blessings upon us and especially His presence with us. We would be going nowhere without His presence with us.
Of course, it’s not so much that He is with US, but that we are with Him—following Him and doing the basic things that He has called us to do: loving Him, loving one another, and bearing witness to His glory to the ends of the earth.
And entering into 2025, I am reminded that all the blessings of God, and the very life we live, begin and end with the Word of God, who is Jesus Christ, and Him crucified, resurrected, and returning.
The Word of God is the source of all that exists. Everything that has ever been created was created through Him. He is the Spark of life. Our very consciousness comes from Him. It is His image inside of us that makes us self-aware. His image inside of us is what makes us intelligent beings. None of the animals have this.
We have the light of Christ inside of us. And even though we might live in a world that denies Him and seems to grow increasing darker, His light shines forth in every civilization and can never be snuffed out.
That light shines as a witness of Christ, and that light has reached those of us who believe, so that we might shine the light of Christ and bear witness to Him. And we find that light in the Word of God.
The GCC theme for 2025 is “Live Out the Word of God.” In faith, I believe that as we grow numerically, God wants to keep us grounded and focused on Him. And so it’s no coincidence that we begin our Bible reading challenges for 2025 “In the beginning.” And we begin our Living Life devotional in 2025 “In the beginning.”
“In the beginning was the Word.”
Father, Thank You for Your word. Your word is life. Where would we be without Your word to reveal to us the very reason and meaning of all existence, not to mention our own lives. Make this year a banner year for us, Lord, because we are rooted in Your Word. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
