“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” - Acts 2:46-47
What is House Church?
The goal of house church is not simply to increase in numbers. The goal of house church ministry is to build up healthy New Testament churches that serve the purpose of God to make disciples and to fill the earth with His glory in Jesus Christ.
Every house church is a biblically functioning church. Each house church will strive to satisfy the five purposes of a church of Jesus Christ as outlined in Scripture: worship, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism, and service.
At the same time, all the house churches belong to a larger community of churches (church community), so that the strengths and giftings that are available in the larger community may be leveraged to support the needs of all the members.
In GCC Canvas, House Church is defined as follows.
A community that fulfills all the intrinsic purposes of a local church.
Is shepherded by a lay leader.
Meets at people’s homes.
Is made up of 6-12 adults.
Meets regularly at least once a week.
