Courageous

MAIN IDEA
God assures us that we can find strength and courage through His promises, through His principles, and through His presence.

THROUGH HIS PROMISES
God assured Joshua that He would never leave or forsake him, just as He never left Moses. Likewise, God promises us to never leave or forsake us. He promises us eternal life to those that believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This eternal life is the promised land where sorrow will cease and joy will last forever. In this promise, we can find strength and courage.

THROUGH HIS PRINCIPLES
Joshua was commanded to meditate on and obey God’s law, just as Moses had done. All the commandments in Scripture are encompassed by two main principles: loving God and loving others. Through obedience to these great commandments, we find strength and courage.

THROUGH HIS PRESENCE
God’s repeated command to be strong and courageous is reinforced by His promise to be with Joshua wherever he goes. True courage is not the absence of fear but the confidence in God's presence. When we walk with Him, we have nothing to fear. Today, we have the Holy Spirit presently dwelling in all who believe in Christ as their Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is present through Holy Scripture, the Word of God.

DISCUSSION QUESTION
In what ways did God’s promises, principles, and presence help you be strong and courageous in overcoming some of the most difficult periods in your life? How did it help you overcome those trials and challenges?
