Friends Not Foes
16 Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.
17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
18 Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes.Psalm 69:16-18
There are those whose prayers God hears. They are the ones who depend on God’s great mercy in Christ Jesus. He does not hide His face from us in times of trouble.
There are those whose prayers God does not hear. They are the ones who trust only in themselves. They oppose the will of God and ridicule us who follow Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Those who do not fear God are always faced with the limitations of their humanity.
Those who fear God know that all things are possible with God and that He works for the good of those who love Him.
The foes of those who fear God are never other saints who fear God. The foes of those who fear God are the enemies of God.
And yet, God desires that all people be saved and receive the gift of eternal life. For in our salvation, God is glorified.
Some may say that the glory of God is revealed also in His wrath. Even if that is true, I am wary of people who have a tendency of thinking in those terms. It seems that their worldview is more often shaped by the pain of sin rather than the joy of our salvation.
Even so, they are not my foes either but fellow saints who have been saved by grace through faith.
Father, there is so much suspicion and division in Your kingdom. Bring Your people together in unity, Lord. Help me to see fellow believers as brothers and sisters, especially when I find myself in conflict with them. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
